Syracuse Football Recruiting: Kicker Sterling Hofrichter Commits To Orange

Syracuse's 2015 kicking target has targeted them right back.

Rich Barnes-USA TODAY Sports

You might remember kicker Sterling Hofrichter as "Showtime" Hofrichter, the recipient of a recruiting letter we showcased a while back. The nickname stuck and the Florida footman verbally-committed to play for the Syracuse Orange next season.

"I was just waiting out to see if I had any offers, any other choices I had," Hofrichter said. "But Syracuse, once I went up there, I fell in love with it. I love the coaches. That's why I committed to Syracuse."

That makes it two kicker/punters to recently join the program. Evan Jakubowski came aboard a preferred walk-on for this season and he'll be going head-to-head with Hofrichter for the right to replace Riley Dixon next year.

The Florida kicker was targeted by Scott Shafer himself...

Head coach Scott Shafer watched the kid hit a 55-yard field goal during a December practice in Florida, and his mind was made up. This is who he envisioned taking over the position in the near future.

High praise and high expectations for the young man, especially when you realize he was the only kicker SU offered.

He's rated three stars by Rivals, two stars by 24/7 and is considered the 6th-best kicker in the Class of 2015 by Kohl's Kicking (13th best punter, too).
