Get To Know Your Orange Man - #35 LB Dyshawn Davis

Davis looks to follow in the footsteps of Marquis Spruill and seal a pro career with his senior season.

Mark Konezny-USA TODAY Sports

Name: Dyshawn Davis

Position: Linebacker

Year: Senior

Height: 6'2"

Weight: 221 lbs

Hometown: Woodbury, NJ

High School: Woodbury HS

2013 Stats: Davis played in 12 games for the Orange last season, registering 48 total tackles, 32 solo tackles and 2.5 sacks. His best game was the Texas Bowl, where he garnered eight tackles in SU's victory.

2014 Projections: With Marquis Spruill gone, Davis is the elder statesman of the LB unit. Along with Cam Lynch and Oliver Vigile, he'll be one of the starters in what should be a solid group.

How'd He Get Here?: Dyshawn was originally recruited to the 2009 class as a wide receiver, and the coaches were REALLY excited about him there. Marrone raved about him at a signing day event in the football wing in Manley. However, he was a non-qualifier and went to Milford Academy, where he spent one semester. The Milford coaches moved him to safety, I'm sure at the behest of the Syracuse staff, and he wound up at linebacker when he reached Syracuse that winter. Worked out in the end.

Scout/Rivals Said: Three stars from Scout and 247, two from Rivals and ESPN.

Money Quote: "Coming in to the ACC, guys might not know (about us)," Davis said. "We're coming into the ACC not to just be an average team. We're coming into the ACC to win a championship, an ACC championship. Teams better watch out. That's all I can say."

Links Of Wonder: Syracuse's Dyshawn Davis transformed from wide receiver to preseason All-ACC linebacker

Twitterfeed: , though it should be noted he hasn't tweeted since 2012.

What Does Shafer Think Of Him: "Dyshawn Davis is an excitable player who loves the game, and he’s got some qualities that are different than Cam. His sense of excitability has its own merit."

Interesting Nugget O'Interest: As a senior in high school, Davis caught 80 passes for 800 yards and seven touchdowns.
