Syracuse Women's Lax Tops Loyola 14-12 In Overtime Thriller

The Orange overcame a three-goal deficit late to earn the Senior Day victory and almost certainly lock up a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament.

The Syracuse Orange women's lacrosse team's 2014 regular season has been full of excitement, scares and thrills. The ending stayed right on point.

No. 2/2 Syracuse scored the last three goals of regulation and twice in overtime to record a come-from-behind 14-12 victory against No. 11/11 Loyola in its regular-season finale in the Carrier Dome. The Orange improves its record to 18-2 overall, its best regular-season record in school history.

Senior Alyssa Murray led Syracuse with eight points on four goals and four assists. She increased her career point total to 340 and moved into second place on the Orange's all-time scoring list, moving past Christina Dove, who amassed 335 points from 2007-10.

For a while there it looked like the Orange were going to get caught looking ahead to the 2014 NCAA Tournament. Loyola took a 12-9 lead with 5:40 left in the game before the senior class stepped on their day to make sure it ended correctly. With :46 left, the Orange tied up the score and took the game to OT.

SU almost certainly locked up the No. 2 seed in the NCAAs with the victory. The 18-2 squad has beaten every team they've played except the No. 1 team in the nation, Maryland. Hopefully they get a third chance against them soon.

Syracuse will find out their seed and opponent when they're announced on Sunday, May 4 at 9 p.m. on NCAA.com.
