Syracuse Kicker Ryan Norton Gets Suspended for Violation of Team Rules

Junior kicker Ryan Norton has been temporarily suspended, Scott Shafer said on Wednesday.

In Saturday's Spring Game, it was Alex Hodgkinson – not Ryan Norton – who handled the kicking duties.  During the ACC coaches' teleconference, Scott Shafer explained why. Norton has been suspended again after breaking team rules.

"I had to suspend Ryan from the team for a little bit," Shafer said.  "I’m looking forward to his return at the beginning of the summer. He violated some team rules and he’s done a nice job taking ownership."

It is Norton's second suspension in a five-month span.  He was inactive for Syracuse's win against Wake Forest, following charges of resisting arrest and underage drinking.

Last year, Norton was 10-of-15 on field goal attempts.  He started the season as the kickoff specialist, but became the full-time kicker after Ross Krautman needed season-ending hip surgery.  Krautman received a medical hardship waiver and is returning for his fifth season.  Although he was in uniform for Saturday's game, he was inactive.  Syracuse also added Class of 2014 recruit Evan Jakubowski to a preferred walk-on position.

Shafer declined to say what led to Norton's suspension, only adding that he expects a quick return.

Said Shafer, "It’s between Ryan and I, but he’ll be back for us shortly and we look forward to that."
