Now listen, if it was any other 3-seed that got knocked off...it wouldn't be THAT big of a story. Do you think the radio waves would be amped as much if it was anyone else? If Iowa State was defeated, would Twitters be'a'twitterin' and Facebooks be'a'facebookin.'? If our beloved Saltine Warriors were clipped by [generic MAC team], would it be the lead freakin' banner on Huffington Post?

The answer is 'of course not'. Moreover, I would argue another big contributing factor to the hype is the name of the other school. Any 'directional' name would have been more palatable. 'LA Lafayette...hmm, they can be good in football sometimes, so they must be a big school...yeah I could see that happening'. You could probably even justify NC Central as 'oh, hey, a natural rival...I think.'

A 14-seed beating a 3-seed is always a big story in the first weekend, and it deserves immediate press, but it's not like 3-seeds are unimpeachable. The upset has been pulled 14 times since the expansion....including last year by our nation's beloved Harvard Harvardians.

My point is, this story has been completely blow up beyond it's perspective as a direct result of pedigree. That's neither right nor wrong, it is what it is...but the same hype machine that caused coverage to reach Flight 370 stratospheres is the same hype machine that cause almost all of you to pass right over this game. Forget the recent penchant for them to get bounced early, forget Mercer's large interior size being a bad matchup, and forget about how they live and die by the 3...there is no way this upset can happen.

For those of you who powered through and picked this game correctly, hats off to you for not concerning yourself with the name on the jersey...the name I haven't said once in this article. I don't have to say it, because you and all of America already know it.
