National Signing Day, Syracuse Recruiting: Cordell Hudson Adds Secondary Depth

Cordell Hudson, of Largo, Fla., officially signs with Syracuse, helping beef up depth for a secondary that badly needs it.

Hudson's Twitter Feed

Given how porous the secondary was in 2013, ti was obviously a unit that needed improvement on the recruiting trail. While Largo, Fla.'s Cordell Hudson isn't the only defensive back in the class of 2014, he is among several who will help fix things going forward.

Stat Me: Hudson is 5'11" and 159 pounds, and he runs a 4.74 40-yard dash. Most services consider him to be among the top 100 or so cornerback prospects in the country.

Seein' Stars: Scout - 3*, Rivals - 3*, 247 - 3*, ESPN - 3*

Who's Crying?: Iowa State, Rutgers SUNJ, Marshall and Wake Forest, along with some others (many of the usual suspects). Some thought he was a lock to be a Scarlet Knight, but well, that wasn't the case...

Money Quote: "The players welcomed me. The coaches, obviously they welcomed me, too. I just felt real comfortable. I felt like I could see myself there for the next four or five years." - Hudson, to Syracuse.com's Nate Mink after making his final decision.

Which SU Coach Gets a Bonus?: The main recruiter was surprisingly not George McDonald, but Tim Lester. Scott Shafer was also a hit with Hudson, as the recruit called him a "great man" and explained he wanted to play for a coach like him (see Mink link above).

Fun Fact: Hudson's Largo High School has churned out some NFL talent of late. Dexter McCluster (Chiefs), Leonard Johnson (Buccaneers) and Usama Young (Raiders) all attended. May you be the next success story from Largo, Cordell.
