NC State News: Backing The Pack

Rivalry: 4-1, Syracuse

Streak: 2, Syracuse

First Meeting: Dave Johnson scored 24 points and grabbed 17 rebounds as the Orangemen topped the Wolfpack 86-79 in 1990.

Last Meeting: The Orange tore off a 23-0 run to end the first half as Dion Waiters scored 22 in SU's 88-72 victory in Raleigh.

Head Coaches: SU: Jim Boeheim (38th Year, 944-314); NCST: Mark Gottfried (3rd Year, 64-32)

Last Year: The Wolfpack finished the season 24–11 (11–7) and advanced to the ACCT semifinals before losing to eventual champ Miami. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA Tourney as an 8-seed but lost in the second round to 9-seed Temple.

Last Game: T.J. Warren scored a career-high 34 points, 23 of which came in the first half, to lead NC State to an easy victory over Wake Forest. With the win, NCSU moved above .500 in league play for the first time this season.

Head Coach Bio: Following a playing career at Alabama, Gottfried took on an assistant gig at UCLA in 1987. He parlayed that into the head gig at Murray State, where he led the Racers to two NCAA Tournaments in three years. From there it was back to Alabama where he took his alma mater to five NCAA Tourneys in eleven years. His '03-'04 squad defeated Syracuse in the Sweet Sixteen. After resigning over an issue with a player, he hooked up with NC State in 2011 and is two-for-two in NCAA Tourney appearances so far.

You may remember Gottfried as the one who accused Jim Boeheim of "popping off" about moving the ACC Tournament to NYC.

"Fear Me, I've Killed Hundreds Of Timelords": T.J. Warren is heads and shoulders above just about everyone else on the squad. Averaging 23.1 PPG, that's more than double anyone else on the roster. Couple in his 7.4 RPG and you might want to put a body on this guy. Warren and Desmond Lee like to launch three-pointers but Ralston Turner (39%) is the most likely zone-killer.

If Syracuse Wins…: They'll lock up a third-consecutive week as the No. 1 team in all the land.

If Syracuse Loses…: You'll get to know the term "trap game" all over again.

Fun Fact: If Syracuse makes it to 27-0, they'll have matched the 1972-1973 NC State team for 2nd-best start in ACC history.

Fun Fact 2: Ticket sales are closing in on 30K for the game, so, it's going to be loud.
