Two long-time former conference rivals meet when the Syracuse Orange (5-2) hosts the St. John’s Red Storm (5-1) tonight in the Carrier Dome. The game tips at 5:10 p.m. and will be televised on ESPN2.

St. John’s is the seventh most frequent foe in Syracuse hoop history with 88 encounters over the years. The Orange own a 51-37 advantage in the all-time series and have won the last nine pairings with the Red Storm. The most recent meeting was last December in Madison Square Garden. The Orange emerged with a 68-63 triumph.

Steve Lavin is in his fifth season as head coach at St. John’s. He’s guided the Red Storm to a 76- 61 record during that time. Lavin’s lineup boasts four players averaging in double digit scoring: senior guard D’Angelo Harrison (17.5 PPG), sophomore guard Rysheed Jordan (16.0), senior forward Sir’Dominic Pointer and senior guard Phil Greene (10.7). Harrison averages a squad-best 9.0 rebounds per game, and gets board support from Pointer (8.7 RPG) and junior center Chris Obekpa (8.5 RPG).
