Syracuse (6-3) heads down to Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Arena today to take on the seventh-ranked Villanova Wildcats. The game tips at 1 p.m. ET, and for those who can't attend in-person (a lot of you, I'd assume), you can catch it on your local FOX affiliate.
For the second straight season, the Wildcats start off the year 10-0 or better, most recently dispatching local foe Temple last Sunday, by a score of 85-62. 'Nova is averaging 76.1 points per game right now, with only a few close matchups on the resume (a five-point victory over Michigan and a seven-point win over Bucknell). Last we saw Villanova, they were busy squandering an 18-point first-half lead en route to a resounding Syracuse victory. I wouldn't hold my breath on history repeating itself.Villanova is coached by Jay Wright, who you know, of course. He's now in his 14th season on the Wildcat sidelines, and one might assume he's not going anywhere given how long he's been there already, plus his 289-149 career record at the school. 'Nova has made the NCAAs nine times under his watch, including one Final Four appearance (2009). He's yet to lead them to a Big East Tournament championship, however.
This year's Wildcats squad is a balanced group led by Dylan Ennis (yes, brother of former Orange, Tyler), Darren Hilliard and Daniel Ochefu, among others. If you're curious to learn a bit more about Villanova, you should check out our Q&A with VU Hoops' Brian Ewart. The TNIAAM staff also offered up some depressing predictions for the game yesterday, which you may or may not want to read.
