Basketball Recruiting: Tyus Battle Cuts List to 11

Highly sought after 2016 SU target Tyus Battle cut his list of suitors yesterday and the Orange survived (obviously).

Tyus Battle is probably the Orange's most coveted target in the 2016 class, and we've made a great impression with him since we started his recruitment. The 6'6'' Shooting Guard out of Gil St. Bernard's in Edison, NJ has a laundry list of offers from essentially every high major school in the country.

Battle appears to be a great kid and would be an excellent get for our program, as evidenced in this short video that SNY put out.

He cut his list down this week, and even if you haven't seen him play, you can tell how great of a player he is by his offer list - UConn, Duke, Florida, Kentucky, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Syracuse, Villanova, and Virginia make up his top 11.

While cutting a list down to 11 really doesn't provide any insight into where a prospect like Battle might be leaning, the Orange seem like one of his preferred destinations based on interviews with him and his father.

"Overall, it went well," Gary Battle said. "It went as well as it can go. Tyus got a good overall feel. He had been there a few times, but nothing like that."

It also appears that the current issue of potential NCAA sanctions isn't a roadblock at this time either.

"(It doesn't change my interest) at this point. There has not been any ruling by the NCAA that would concern me."

Kentucky (of course) is another main suitor, and you never know what can happen if a "chance meeting" occurs between Battle and Worldwide Wes. Duke appears to be the final other serious candidate to land his services, so we're looking at a three way heavyweight battle for the player they call "Kid Mamba". Here's hoping it goes in the Orange's favor.
