NCAA Field Hockey National Championship/MSOC vs. Penn State Open Thread

No basketball? No football? No problem. Syracuse Athletics has a very big day today. Let's cheer on the field hockey and men's soccer squads.

Down on Syracuse Football and Syracuse Basketball? That's cool. We don't need those guys. We've got Syracuse Orange Field Hockey and Men's Soccer to get us through.

The No. 4 SU Field Hockey squad will take on the No. 3 Connecticut Huskies today for the 2014 NCAA National Title. The game tips (kicks? hits?) at 1:00 p.m. at the University of Maryland Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.

UConn comes into the game as the defending national champ. They also own a 27-9-1 advantage in the all-time series between the two schools.

However, Syracuse's program has been building to this moment for some time now. All Ange Bradley has done since arriving at SU in 2007 is lead the Orange to three Final Fours ('08, '12, '14) and the school's first title game appearance today.

If you haven't been paying attention, check out our previous coverage of the season here. You can watch today's game live on NCAA.com.

As for the Men's Soccer Club, the No. 4 Orange (15-3-1) host the Penn State Nittany Lions (13-5-1) in the second round of the 2014 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship at the SU Soccer Stadium. Opening kick is at 2:00 p.m.

The first 250 students on hand will get in for free. Gates open at 1:00 p.m.

This is Syracuse's third NCAA appearance and second in the last three seasons. Syracuse has won 19 straight games against non-conference opponents. Penn State leads the all-time series, 30-2-4, but the teams have played only once since 1960. The winner advances to the Round of 16 and will face the winner of the Georgetown-Old Dominion match on Sunday, Nov. 30.

You can watch the match on Orange All-Access.
