Syracuse Football: Durell Eskridge Submitting to NFL Draft Advisory Board

The redshirt junior free safety will get an honest read on his draft potential before making a decision whether or not to go pro.

When redshirt junior free safety Durell Eskridge got his own moment during Senior Day against the Duke Blue Devils, it was a sign to Syracuse Orange fans that he was probably gone to the NFL. Eskridge says he hasn't made that decision yet but he will submit himself to the NFL Draft Advisory Board and then make a decision afterward.

"I really haven't made that decision right now," Eskridge said when asked if he plans on returning for his senior season. "I'm just trying to finish these last two games strong. At the end of the day, I'll put my name in, see where I'm at and I'll make a decision from there, but other than that I'm not really focusing on thinking about that."

Pretty smart play by Eskridge. He's got NFL talent but he's no lock for the upper part of the draft. CBSSports.com ranks him as the No. 5 free safety overall and has received projections as a fourth-rounder. I think we've all been in this rodeo long enough to know those projections don't really mean anything. All that matters is what NFL teams think and that could be drastically different. He has until January 15 to make it.

"At the end of the day, I just want a shot to show what I can do at the next level," Eskridge said.

Fair enough, Durell.
