The Syracuse Orange are 3-7. Their bowl chances are over. Their only chance to make an impact on the college football landscape from here on out is to play the role of spoiler.
Enter the Pittsburgh Panthers, who at 4-6, need to win-out in order to qualify for a bowl game. Pitt has to not only beat us but also defeat Miami next weekend.
Vegas seems to think they'll take care of business this weekend as they've installed Pitt as a 8-point favorite over the Orange.
The Syracuse - Pitt series is riddled with results that don't make any sense. While the capital-R Rivalry aspect of the rivalry isn't quite there, these games do have a way of playing out in strange ways. Pitt has dominated the series since 2002 (10-2) but the Orange did beat the Panthers two seasons ago. The last two games have both been low-scoring, ugly affairs, befitting the state of both programs.
This Saturday's game will take place at 3:30 p.m. at Heinz Field and will be televised on ESPNU.
