NC State BlogBacking The Pack

Rivalry6-1, NC State

Current Streak: 1, Syracuse

First Meeting: The first meeting between the two schools took place in 1972. NC State won 43-20. Not too much info out there about it but, knowing what we know about 70's Syracuse football, sounds about right.

Last Meeting: Last year, Terrel Hunt went 10-20 with 74 passing yards and two interceptions but the running game compiled 362 yards and three touchdowns as the Orange notched their first ACC win as well as first win ever over NC State, 24-10.

Head Coaches: SU: Scott Shafer (2nd Year, 10-11), NC State: Dave Doreen (2nd Year, 7-13)

Curious Connections: Scott Shafer and NC State offensive coordinator Matt Canada were both grad assistants at Indiana in 1992 and coached together at Northern Illinois from 1998-2003. Also, Orange Assistant AD for Athletic Performance Will Hicks worked on the NC State strength & conditioning from 1986-2000.

Both teams also battled it out last year for the services of Drew Allen. That worked out...

Last Year: The Pack got off to a decent 3-1 start but rattled off eight-consecutive losses to end Doreen's first year at the helm. They finished with a 3-9 (0-8) record.

Last Game: Louisville grinded out a 30-18 victory over the Pack in a game they never trailed.

"Fear Me, I've Killed Hundreds of Timelords": QB Jacoby Brissett is third in the ACC with 16 touchdown passes and ranks third in the conference in total offense (248.0 ypg). • RB Shadrach Thornton is tied for fourth in the ACC with seven rushing touchdowns and is fifth in yards per carry (5.75).

If Syracuse Wins: They'll be in decent position to control their own destiny for bowl eligibility.

If Syracuse Loses: Bowl eligibility? What are you talking about?

Fun Fact: NC State hasn't won an ACC game since November 24, 2012 (Boston College).
