Wake BlogBlogger So Dear

Rivalry2-1, SU

Current Streak: 2, SU

First Meeting: In 2006, Perry Patterson hit Rice Moss for SU’s only touchdown. Micah Andrews led Wake with 142 yards rushing on 20 carries en route to a 20-10 victory in Winston-Salem.

Last Meeting: The Orange shut out Wake Forest 13-0 in an ugly, defensive, mistake-filled game. Totally cool with that kind of ugly happening again.

Head Coaches: SU: Scott Shafer (2nd Year, 9-10), Wake: Dave Clawson (1st Year, 2-4)

Curious Connections: Orange linebackers coach Clark Lea was a member of Dave Clawson’s staff when Clawson was the head coach at Bowling Green. Lea mentored the Falcons’ linebackers under Clawson in 2012. Lea and Wake Forest linebackers coach Warren Belin were both at Vanderbilt in 2005. Lea was an offensive grad assistant. Belin coached the linebackers. Wake Forest secondary coach Derrick Jackson coached the defensive line at Syracuse for three seasons (2007-09).

Last Year: Things got off to a semi-positive start as the team beat NC State and Maryland en route to a 4-3 record. Then the bottom dropped out and the Deacs finished 4-8. Head coach Jim Grobe resigned at the end of the year.

Last Game: Much like Syracuse, Wake's last game involved a beating at the hands of the Florida State Seminoles. The Noles started slow with the Deacs but easily beat them, 43-3.

"Fear Me, I've Killed Hundreds of Timelords": Wake is last out of 128 FBS teams in rushing (31.0 YPG) and total offense (212.8 YPG), so, not too much to fear. Defensively, Brandon Chubb is one of the top linebackers in the ACC with 58 tackles while DL Taylor Harris has two blocked kicks and leads the FBS with four fumble recoveries.

If Syracuse Wins: They'll snap a four-game losing streak and prove they're not giving up on the season just yet.

If Syracuse Loses: They'll officially be the worst team in the ACC and things are gonna get weird around here.

Fun Fact: A.J. Long had the most successful debut of any SU true freshman signal caller, completing more passes (16) for more yards (167) than any of the previous eight did in their first college game.
