Wake News: Blogger So Dear

Rivalry: 1-0, Syracuse

Streak: 1, Syracuse (duh)

First/Last Meeting: The two teams have met only once previously -- Syracuse claimed a 74-67 decision in the championship game of the 2001 Preseason NIT. DeShaun Williams led the Orange with 23 points.

School Connections: Wake's sophomore forward Tyler Cavanaugh played high school ball at Jamesville-DeWitt with Syracuse’s DaJuan Coleman. He's kept in touch.

Head Coaches: SU: Jim Boeheim (38th Year, 939-314); Wake: Jeff Bzdelik (4th Year: 48-56)

Last Year: Another rough year for the Deacs, who finished the season 13–18 (6–12) to end up in a tie for ninth place in the ACC. They lost in the first round of the ACC Tournament to Maryland. It was the second-straight season with a 13-18 record.

Last Game: Sophomore Devin Thomas scored 21 points on 10-11 shooting and Wake Forest hit 6 of their last 8 free throws to hold off Notre Dame 65-58 on Saturday.

Head Coach Bio: Bzdelik has bounced around a lot. After many years as an assistant, he took over as head coach of the Denver Nuggets. Three years later it didn't work out too well and he took the Air Force job. After a few years there he was off to Colorado and in 2010 he came to Wake. He's got to keep the Deacons on a winning pace this season, otherwise he's going to keep up this streak of changing gigs every 3-4 years.

"Fear Me, I've Killed Hundreds Of Timelords": Devin Thomas enters the game as the ACC's top rebounder (8.5/game), which is sure to cause trouble for the Orange. Don't sleep on Codi Miller-McIntyre, who is leading the team with 15.2 PPG.

If Syracuse Wins…: They will match their best start in program history, 20-0.

If Syracuse Loses…: They will be accused to looking ahead to Duke on Saturday. And all of a sudden that Duke game has the added pressure of possibly being a second-straight loss.

Fun Fact: This is the first time Wake Forest has ever hosted an undefeated team this late into the season.
