Just because the Syracuse Orange don't play this weekend, that doesn't mean there isn't football to be watched. As everyone gets into ACC play and bowl eligibility/seeding begins to enter the discussion, let's make sure we're all keeping an eye on the games and teams that matter this Saturday.
Virginia Tech 17 - Georgia Tech 10
Obviously this one's over and done with. The Techie Convention ends with the Jackets, who were on the verge of being ranked, losing. GT was rough on third down (5-of-14) and only rushed for 129 yards. Combine that with the poor crowd on hand and I'm starting to feel a little better about this road game.
Virginia (2-1) vs. Pittsburgh (2-1) - 12:30 p.m., ESPN3
Pitt certainly proved it can trackmeet if it has to with their 58-55 win over Duke last week. The big question headed into this game...what's up with their crappy defense? The Panthers are, somewhat surprisingly, favored in this one. The outcome should help us determine just how serious we should consider our late-season tilt with them.
No. 8 Florida State (3-0) vs. Boston College (2-1) - 3:30 p.m., ABC/ESPN2
One of two games featuring two future opponents, the expectations are pretty clear here. BC fans are hoping for the best. Florida State just wants to take care of business. Let's root for FSU to destroy BC so we can upset them in a few weeks when they're No. 3/4, cool? Cool.
CMU (1-3) vs. N.C. State (2-1) - 3:30 p.m., ESPN3
We're so focused on Clemson that we're not really paying attention to the fact that the Wolfpack game is a week later. Let's get to see what their about in this "easy" contest. Everyone expects State to roll, let's see if they can take care of business (and what a game looks like in that stadium).
Wake Forest (2-2) vs. No. 3 Clemson (4-0) - 3:30 p.m., ESPNU
Perhaps the most timely game for Orange fans as it pits two of our next four opponents against one another. Statistically-speaking, this one shouldn't be close. Then again, the Tigers weren't supposed to have a close one last week either. Will Wake take any momentum from their Army win? We'll see (but no).
Bye Week: Maryland
