So before we get into checking how just how good Terrel Hunt has been statistically, I just want to make two quick qualifiers...
A. Yes I know Terrel has accumulated all of his stats against Northwestern's third-team, FCS Wagner and Tulane. I am aware that doing so is not the same as doing so against Clemson, FSU and Georgia Tech. However, I'm also aware that plenty of other quarterbacks, from SU or otherwise, have played similar opponents and NOT accrued the kind of stats Hunt has. So while we can all agree Terrel's numbers are not against "quality" opponents, they are not worthless either.
B. Teddy Bridgewater is putting up amazing stats against competition that's arguably worse than, and at-best equal to the competition Terrel has played and he is considered a Heisman frontrunner because of it. Read into that as you will...
So with that said, here's how good Terrel Hunt has been as quarterback for the Syracuse Orange in 2.3 games this season...
1. Unofficially, Terrel Hunt is the No. 1 quarterback in the NATION when it comes to Total QB Rating with a 98.9 Raw TQR. For frame of reference, Teddy Bridgewater is 12th with 92.6 and FSU's Jamies Winston is 13th with 91.5. I'll be honest with you and let you know I have no idea how effective a stat this is, but, whatever. It says Terrel Hunt is the best*, I say he's the best.
*Including unqualified players due to # of plays, which Hunt is
2. In terms of the All-Time Best Games using the Total QB Rating, Hunt's game against Wagner was the 34th-best performance by a college QB since 2004.
3. Hunt and Baylor's Bryce Petty are the only two QBs in college football with a multiple games in which they rated a 98 or higher TQR.
4. Hunt is currently tied for 25th in the nation in the Points Responsible For category with 54. One of the guys he's tied with...Clemson's Tajh Boyd (And again, Boyd has had four games to do this while Hunt has done it in roughly 2.3).
As Jerry Seinfeld might say, "He's doing very well."
