Get To Know Your Orange Man - #51 - DE Donnie Simmons

Donnie Simmons' season is already over but it doesn't mean we can't talk about him.

Mark Konezny-US PRESSWIRE

Name: Don Wayne "Donnie" Simmons

Position: Defensive End

Year: Sophomore

Height: 6'2"

Weight: 250

Hometown: Hartsdale, NY

High School: Archbishop Stepinac

2012 Stats: Simmons saw action in all thirteen games last season, though most of it was in special teams play.

2013 Projections: Unfortunately, Simmons tore his ACL in the spring and his season is already over. Hopefully he can get a medical hardship since he's already redshirted (redshart?).

How'd He Get Here?: Simmons was considered a sleeper at the Penn State Nike Training Football Camp and Syracuse offered on the heels of that. He also got an offer from Akron, of course.

What'd Scout/Rivals Say?: Scout said three stars and Rivals said two.

Money Quote: "I’m definitely excited to see what Syracuse’s health program has in store for me. I’m confident I can fill out my frame." - Donnie

What Does Shafer Think: Dunno but here's Tim Daoust...

"Donnie plays extremely hard at all times. He is all-out all the time. And that’s what we’re going to do (as a defense). He’s a role model for the kids that way."

Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Simmons would have loved to have gotten a chance to badger Terrel Hunt in camp this year. In a game in high school against Hunt's squad, Simmons not only tormented Hunt in the backfield, but ran a kick back 85 yards for a touchdown en route to a 45-12 victory.
