Name: Troy Green
Position: Quarterback
Year: Freshman
Height: 6'0''
Weight:184
Hometown: Skaneateles, NY
High School: Skaneateles
2012 Stats: Went 165-for-244 passing, for 2,382 yards and 34 touchdowns his senior year. Also ran for 11 scores.
2013 Projections: He's a quarterback (for now), so he won't be seeing the field. He's also a walk-on, so again, won't be seeing the field.
How'd He Get Here?: Green was hanging out on the scout team at Central Florida as a scholarship player. Then he realized that going to a 56,000-student commuter school in sweltering humidity wasn't all he thought it was. So he decided to follow in his old man's footsteps at SU.
What'd Scout/Rivals Say?: "Who's that? We only know this other Troy Green who was recruited by Texas."
Money Quote: Green had this to say when he went to UCF. So much for that:
""It's just a better situation than at Syracuse. There are a lot of quarterbacks there."
Links of Wonder: Troy and his dad -- SU great Tim Green -- did some math and thought he'd have a better chance at starting at Syracuse than UCF. I'm looking at our current depth chart and incoming recruits, and I'm unsure how that works out. But props on living the dream, guys.
What Does Shafer Think: Shafer will have an opinion on him by next year, probably.
Interesting Nugget O'Interest: A third article about the process of getting Troy to Syracuse shows him being a lot more realistic about playing time, and being very deferential toward the guys in front of him on the depth chart. Just in case though, looking into "Troy Green is an Absolute Magician" as a possible domain name...
Let Us Get a Good Look Atchya: Gotta like what you see here from high school.
