It's August, how the hell am I writing basketball preview posts?
Somehow, there is basketball to be played as the Syracuse Orange kick off their four-game exhibition stint in Canada with a game against the McGill Redmen in Montreal. Let's get the particulars out of the way. We'll have a GameThread later when the game tips.
Date: Wednesday, August 21st
Time: 6:00 p.m.
Location: Love Competition Hall, Montreal, Quebec (950-seat capacity)
How To Watch On TV: Time Warner Cable SportsChannel across Upstate New York and New York City (check local listings).
How To Watch Online: The pay-per-view link will be available on suathletics.com Wednesday afternoon (Here it is). The price for each game is $14.99 per game, or $44.44 for all four.
Announcers: Matt Park, Leo Rautins
Team History: You could say McGill invited basketball. Kinda. James Naismith is a McGill grad and he started developing the sport while in Montreal.
Coach: Dave DeAveiro (5th year)
Roster: Here.
Syracuse Connection: The Orange and Redmen have met before...on the football field. Syracuse defeated McGill twice, in 1921 and 1922.
Fun Fact: Only the men's teams are known as Redmen (not named for Indians, believe it or not). The women's team's are known as Martlets, an emblem depicting a bird similar to a swallow. Neat!
