I know I bring this up a lot but, having covered Syracuse Orange basketball now for so many years, I've come to learn that there are two Jim Boeheims.
There is in-season, public persona Jim Boeheim.
And then there is human being Jim Boeheim.
Public Persona Boeheim keeps his cards close to his chest. If you have a little press badge in your hat, he doesn't trust you. He's sarcastic and makes jokes to compensate for his fear that you're going to twist his words and make mountains out of molehills. He's protective and insecure and sometimes mean and charismatic and ornery and curmudgeonly and competitive.
Human being Jim Boeheim is...a human being. You don't see him very often. He usually only comes out once or twice a summer. You'll find him in a throwaway interview or at a charity event speaking to a crowd while raising a ton of money. He's usually gone as soon as he appears and doesn't re-emerge until the following May.
Here's Human Being Boeheim talking about his career, his life, his goals and what's important.
