Shock of shocks but the Syracuse Orange did not receive any votes in the preseason USA Today Coaches Poll, released today. It's the first of many college football rankings sure to preclude the Orange (for now...)
No surprise up top, it's the Alabama Crimson Tide. They received 58 first-place votes. The only other schools to get any were the No. 2 Ohio St. Buckeyes (three votes) and No. 6 Texas A&M Aggies (one vote). The Oregon Ducks, Stanford Cardinal and Georgia Bulldogs round out the Top 5.
The ACC got two squads in the rankings, the No. 8 Clemson Tigers and No. 12 Florida St. Seminoles.
Looking over Syracuse's schedule, we have three teams total that are ranked. Along with Clemson and FSU, the Northwestern Wildcats will enter the season at No. 22.
In case you were wondering, Scott Shafer is not one of the 62 head coaches voting in the poll. He's too #hardnosed for something like that.
