Starting quarterback hopeful Terrel Hunt will be featured on the Emmy Award-winning summer television series "Havoline Football Saturdays", hosted by Tim Brando this Saturday. Hunt will tell his story in this ACC-centric episode to air at 7 p.m. ET.
It’s been three weeks since SU officially joined the ACC. There haven’t been any games yet, so no major effects have been felt. Come fall, SU will see how its sports fare against teams from the ACC. I think they’ll fit in just fine. While the ACC is stronger than the Big East was, it’s not as high and mighty as it may seem. I know this because I grew up in the heart of University of Maryland Terrapins country. Nearly everyone in Maryland roots for the Terps. Georgetown? Forget it. Too small of a fan base. Marcus: Change is good It was the ACC and UMD.
"Coach Marrone was more laid back. He is more chill," Bromley said. "He didn't really have a great personal relationship with a lot of the players. But Coach Shafer being the (defensive coordinator) first, he built relationships with a lot of his players, especially defensive players. So we understand him, what he wants, what he expects from us, how he desires to play the game. So with that in mind we wanted to play for him more because we know he has our best interests in mind."
Onondaga Community College standout defenseman Ryan Vella, a first-team All-American in 2013, intends to enroll at Syracuse University this fall. Vella, a two-time All-League selection at Irondequoit High School near Rochester before attending OCC, would join two other Lazers in transferring to Syracuse, as Six Nations Arrows star Randy Staats — the two-time NJCAA Offensive Player of the Year — and long-stick midfielder Niko Manning, also a two-time All-American, have plans to join the Orange. Staats, who is currently one of the top forwards for the Six Nations Arrows of the OLA Junior A league, is reportedly finishing up coursework and plans to enroll for spring 2014. Manning and Vella are expected to enroll at Syracuse in the fall.
In third and fifth place, we have two new entrants to the conference. Syracuse is ranked third, and Pitt comes in ranked fifth. Syracuse finishes relatively high because their fans continue to support a team that has often struggled over the past decade. The high rank of these two entrants suggests that the ACC making very good expansion decisions.
Syracuse is not to be underestimated. Aside from UConn, they were the only team to beat Louisville last year. Their defense is inconsistent but can be really impressive at times, and they're pretty hard to beat at home. We'll see how they pan out this year. Verdict: Jury's Out
At Syracuse, he will oversee sports information, executive athletic communications, digital enterprises and production plus new and traditional media operations and contracts for SU in conjunction with the ACC. In addition, he will help manage the IMG multi-media rights relationship, brand management and other external revenue generating functions for SU Athletics.
This eBay listing for a JoJo Marasco jersey, placed on eBay on Thursday night, seeks to sell a "team-issued jersey" for $275. The jerseys cost $40 at the yard sale, and this one seems like it was almost assuredly purchased at Manley Field House. The item currently has no bids.
"He needed to play and we knew that,'' Greene's agent, Chris Luchey, said this week. "That was part of his agreement with Memphis. Donte's not a young guy. He's been in the league, but he's new to the (Grizzlies') system and he hadn't played one minute with Memphis.''
"He could go to an NBA team's training camp with a partial guarantee or go to China or Europe,'' Luchey said. "If he chooses China or Europe, we've still got to find him a place where he will get major minutes, get paid and continue his development.''
A reader emailed me a photo snapped, he said, by a friend who was in the gym. This friend did not want to reveal the photographer's name. He claims his friend did not shoot and distribute the original image of a slumbering Boeheim. And he wanted to bolster Boeheim's assertion that the SU coach was "awake and alert" during the actual games.
Gbinije was in the starting lineup for the East Coast All-Stars along with Syracuse University teammate Rakeem Christmas. Christmas finished with six points and three rebounds. Christmas made all three of his field goal attempts.
If the season started today, Hunt would be the starter. He proved himself worthy of the spot atop the depth chart during spring practice, where his throwing arm caught up with his athleticism to produce a well-rounded player. The 6-foot-3-inch, 219-pound sophomore can both run and pass, adding an interesting dimension to the Syracuse offense.
"He's opened up a lot of eyes. And that's not just me saying it," Boeheim said. "He's just done a really good job here."
