Get To Know Your Orange Man - #60 Sean Hickey

New, comment

"Get to Know..." continues with the Orange man wearing #60, offensive tackle (and potential star), Sean Hickey.

Mark Konezny-US PRESSWIRE

The Get To Know Your Orange Man series continues its summer run...

Name: Sean Hickey

Position: Offensive Tackle

Year: Junior (Redshirt)

Height: 6'5"

Weight: 291

Hometown: Murrysville, Penn.

High School: Franklin Regional

2012 Stats: Sean started 13 games as a sophomore last season, at both right and left tackle. He improved as the year went on -- especially once Justin Pugh returned from injury to retake the left tackle spot (moving Sean to right tackle).

2013 Projections: Now the full-time left tackle, Hickey will be a core part of the Orange's offensive success in 2013. Whether running or passing, Hickey's huge frame will be what keeps things moving and many fans see him as a potential all-ACC player before long.

How'd He Get Here?: Hickey picked Syracuse over Boston College (ha!) and Illinois after coming out of high school as a well sought-after O-linemen.

What'd Scout/Rivals Say?: Scout said he was a two-star prospect and the 107th best in the country at his position. Rivals also gave him two stars.

Money Quote: Former comrade on the Syracuse offensive line Zack Chibane has some pretty high praise for Hickey. Take note, ACC media!:

"The way that (Hickey) moves and his size and his strength and ability to run block makes him one of the top tackles in the ACC. I don't care that he's never played in there. I think he's a top player in the conference."

Links of Wonder: Sean ate five or six meals per day this offseason, almost entirely made up of protein. The point was to put on some good weight, which he did while taking in 485 grams of protein per day.

What Does Shafer Think: Nothing specific on Hickey, but he did have this to say about the entire offensive line and their need to come together quickly this year without a major star like Pugh:

"Every offensive line I’ve ever been around that’s worth a hill of beans, they were tight and they believed in one another."

Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Extra fact from the meals story above: Sean benched 41 reps at 225 pounds over the offseason, which would've been the top figure at this year's NFL Scouting Combine.

Let Us Get a Good Look Atchya: Enjoy this highlight tape of Hickey and Pugh abusing UConn's defensive line during Syracuse's blowout 40-10 victory last fall. Lots of fun to watch this, especially when you remember that the Huskies are not joining us in the ACC and it's unlikely we're facing them any time soon.
