Syracuse Orange long snapper J. Sam Rodgers (the J. is not a typo) has been named a nominee for the 2013 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, which is described as "the most prestigious off-the-field honor in college football."
Rodgers joins 150 other athletes who boast impressive resumes of community service. Rodgers himself is noted for the following...
- Speaking with local middle schools on the importance of nutrition.
- Traveling to Haiti with Poverty Resolutions to work with an orphanage. Rodgers led seminars, built a basketball court and taught English.
- Assisting in the development of a Fellowship of Christian Athletes group at Cazenovia Middle School.
The nominees will be whittled down to a final roster of 22 award recipients, 11 from FBS and 11 from FCS.
Rodgers has played in every game in his Syracuse career so far (25) and should be the team's long snapper once again this season.
By the way, the J. stands for John. I know you were wondering (and hoping it was Judilicious or something like that).
