When Ryan Nassib wasn't taken with the No. 8 overall pick by the Buffalo Bills, a lot of folks figured he probably wouldn't be taken until the 2nd or 3rd round. Turns out that was a little too positive.
The 2nd and 3rd rounds of the 2013 NFL Draft are in the books and no Syracuse players have been taken since Justin Pugh went to the New York Giants in the first round.
That means we're going to find out where Ryan Nassib is heading on Saturday when the rest of the draft takes place. We're also probably going to hear about Shamarko Thomas and, hopefully, Sir Alec Lemon.
Ultimately, this is probably a much better setup for Nassib. Gone are the expectations to step in and steward a flailing franchise. Here are the expectations to be a backup, potentially on a solid franchise, with the plan to one day work his way into the starter role.
The shame, of course, is that Nassib will now wear the "nosedive" tag, not because of anything he did, but because just about every NFL Draft expert is so terrible at their job, they overhyped him to an unrealistic level that obviously never had any basis in truth. Oh well. I suppose it worked out well for Aaron Rodgers.
Meanwhile, how bout the New York Jets taking Geno Smith and adding him to their cabal of quarterbacks? It's so very Jets that they would use their pick to take a quarterback who's already 0-1 in NYC before he even gets there.
The Buffalo Bills are four picks in and have yet to take a Syracuse player. That doesn't mean Doug Marrone isn't keeping an eye on them...
Marrone on undrafted @cuse players: "I'd be remiss if I told you that it doesn't hurt"

Marrone on Ryan Nassib not being picked: "I'm extremely surprised ... I think he'll be selected soon"

You've still got four picks, Doug. Just sayin'...
See you back here Saturday.
