2013 NFL Draft: With the eighth pick, the Buffalo Bills select ... | syracuse.com
I was asked to play GM and participate in a mock draft on CBSSports.com for the upcoming NFL Draft. I represent the Buffalo Bills at pick number eight. So, with the eighth pick in the 2013 CBSSports.com mock NFL Draft, Brent Axe selects....
It's amazing how little talent Syracuse has developed at quarterback. Or it's impressive the success Syracuse has had without marquee quarterbacks. Half empty? Or half full? Your call.
Paulus excited to watch former 'Cuse understudy Nassib in NFL Draft - CBSSports.com
"He's really helped turn Syracuse football around," Paulus said. "The first thing I ever noticed about him was his IQ. He's a very, very smart football player -- and his a strong arm. Now he understands how to play in an NFL system after playing for Coach (Doug) Marrone."
Now it's time to take a look at some of the bad, the former SU players who fell short of the expectations their draft pick bestowed upon them.
"I think they're in a little bit of a tough spot," NFL Network draft expert Mike Mayock said of the Buffalo Bills heading into the draft. "I think you're kind of stuck."
"It wouldn't be anything specific in terms of, 'Listen, I like your team and I want to come in and want to make a linebacker position,'" Vaughan said. "It'd just be like, even though I'm not as marketed as big as these other players, I'm a graduate student who's played all my four years at Syracuse. I've started and I've made an impact on special teams. I've won awards. I'm a scholar-student and I'm a hard worker. And if you talk to anybody who knows me, I can benefit a franchise."
"The nice thing with Michael is he gives us some flexibility," SU coach Jim Boeheim said. "We think he can play the two or the three and we played him in practice at the one just to get him used to that. You wouldn’t want him to play 20 minutes at point guard, but he could play there eight or 10 minutes very easily."
Syracuse's C.J. Fair's return will impact the Orange in a variety of ways -- all good | syracuse.com
Last year, Fair led Syracuse in scoring without ever being the go-to guy. Yes, he took more shots than any other Syracuse player, but only by a slim margin over Brandon Triche and Michael Carter-Williams. Since Fair had fewer free-throw attempts and more offensive rebounds than either Triche or Carter-Williams, it stands to reason that Syracuse didn’t exactly feature Fair as its main offensive weapon.
Ron Patterson took the long road to Syracuse | syracuse.com
The 6-foot-3 guard had an outstanding year at Brewster. He helped the Bobcats to a 32-6 record and the New England Prep School Athletic Conference championship. Patterson was named the NEPSAC's Player of the Year.
Nassib, Pugh, Alec Lemon and Shamarko Thomas shouldn’t be in this position, ready to be drafted. The Class of 2009 — which consisted of Lemon, Thomas, Pugh and Andrew Tiller, who was drafted a year ago — ranked No. 102 out of 120 recruiting classes, right behind Ball State and just ahead of Utah State. Nassib came in the year before, but he wouldn’t have helped. He was just a two-star himself.
Syracuse University Athletics - Bright Lights, Big City Classic
The Orange can claim at least a share of the regular-season crown with a victory. Syracuse wins the regular-season championship outright, and earns the top seed in the BIG EAST Tournament with a victory against the Irish and a Villanova loss to Providence.
