Syracuse Football: Torian Phillips Reunion Not Gonna Happen After All

Remember Torian Phillips? He was the very first recruit of the Doug Marrone Era before transferring to Wagner. We were expecting to see him in the Dome this year.... Not anymore.

USA TODAY Sports

Remember Torian Phillips? He was the very first recruit of the Doug Marrone Era. The All-City Player of the Year chose SU over Rutgers and even had some playing time as a freshman. However, following the season, he decided to transfer, citing multiple family illnesses.

Phillips landed at Wagner, where, he turned into a solid player. All signed pointed to him returning to the Carrier Dome when the Wagner Seahawks take on the Orange this upcoming season.

And then this happened...

Standout cornerback Torian Phillips, 22, of Lockman Avenue on Staten Island, stole a gold necklace, a gold Playboy charm and an Xbox video game from rooms in Tower Hall on the Staten Island campus at about 2:30 p.m. on March 14, according to a criminal complaint.

He was arraigned yesterday in State Island Criminal Court on six counts of burglary and four counts each of larceny and possession of stolen property.

Phillips was expelled...

One one hand...come on, now.

On the other hand, there's already a concern from SU fans that the Wagner game won't count towards bowl eligibility because the school doesn't have the required amount of scholarship player on their roster. SU claims that the game will count, though they're apparently just going on Wagner's word. Now that Wagner is losing two players who I assume are scholarship players, will that make any kind of difference to the apparat waiver in play?

Maybe that's jumping ahead a bit much but, as the season gets closer, that sense that we'll need every win we can get gets stronger.
