We always knew it was you, Marquette Golden Eagles. If the Syracuse Orange are going to attempt to get back to their first Final Four in a decade, they might as well vanquish one more Big East rival to do it. Let's find out what we're in for.
Date: Saturday, March 30th
Time: 4:30 P.M. EST
Location: Verizon Center, Washington, D.C.
TV: CBS
Announcers: Verne Lundquist & Bill Raftery with Rachel Nichols
Records: Syracuse (29-9), Marquette (26-8)
Seeds: Syracuse (4), Marquette (3)
Odds: Syracuse -4.5
Marquette's Last Game: For as much as Syracuse dominated Indiana, The Golden Eags dominated two-seed Miami just as well, if not better, in a 71-61 win.
Series: 8-5, Syracuse
Last Meeting: Davante Gardner, who looks like he enjoys ham, went HAM, scoring 26 points and leading a Marquette attack that pushed SU around en route to a 74-71 victory.
Marquette This Year: The Eagles finished with a 23-7 record in the regular season and a 14-4 Big East record, though they did lose in their first BET game to Notre Dame. They put that behind them by earning a three-seed in the East Region and surviving Davidson & Butler before besting Miami to get here.
Marquette Coach: Buzz Williams (5th year) - Tom Crean's successor, Buzz has remade Marquette in his image. They're big, bruising, nasty and fun. He's taken them to the NCAA Tournament in all five seasons and to three consecutive Sweet Sixteens. He's 122-53 at MU and he's a great dancer.
"Fear Me, I've Killed Hundreds Of Timelords": Where do I start? The aforementioned Gardner aside, Vander Blue is good for 14.8 PPG wjile Jamil Wilson and Junior Cadougan are dependable. They've got a lot of big fellas.
Best Tourney Finish: Al McGuire's 1977 squad rolled all the way to the title game, taking the National Title over UNC.
Fun Fact: This is second time Syracuse and Marquette are meeting in the NCAA Tournament in three years. Marquette beat SU in the third round in 2011, the only time SU hasn't made it to the Sweet Sixteen in the last five years.
Fun Fact 2: Marquette has won the last three times the two teams have played away from the Carrier Dome. These facts actually aren't all that fun.
