Syracuse's success isn't just ruining NCAA brackets, it's ruining vacation plans.
Jim Boeheim originally made plans for his annual post-season family vacation to begin this Saturday. The Boeheims were supposed to board a plane from Syracuse to Florida where they'd spend the week at Disney World.
According to SI's Jack McCallum, the trip was planned over a month ago, which means at some point into the season, Boeheim thought the odds were pretty good this team wouldn't make it any further than the Sweet Sixteen. And honestly, thinking back on what this team looked like in February even when they were winning, do you blame him?
I'm not reading anything into this, mind you. I just find it funny to know that even the head coach didn't expect this out of the team. So don't feel bad if you didn't either.
Of course, no good Jim Boeheim anecdote is done until food is involved...
Eight hours before tipoff, Jim Boeheim pronounces his entrée at Edgar in the team hotel -- yes, it is named for J. Edgar Hoover, who lunched there frequently -- as "the best chicken pot pie I ever had." But then the dining omens turn bad. Every time Boeheim finds a dessert option he likes -- and there are five of them -- he finds it includes nuts, to which he is allergic. He has to settle for the final option, vanilla ice cream. (Insert own joke here.)
Perfect.
By the way, want to put Boeheim's palette to the test? Here's the pot pie in question.
