It wouldn't be the start of another Syracuse Orange football season if someone wasn't leaving the program. This year it's OL Andrew Phillips, a senior from CBA, who decided not to use his final year of eligibility.
"I pretty much wasn't sure (if I would come back) after the season ended," Phillips said. "I decided to give it a go through offseason workouts, conditioning. My heart wasn't into it, so I decided it was just that time."
Phillips played in every game last season in a backup role and on special teams. According to Scott Shafer, Phillips would have "been in the mix" but it sounds like a starting gig just wasn't in the cards.
Phillips says he's looking forward to being "a normal person" and will now focus on earning his degree and applying for jobs.
Here's a nice article on Phillips from a few years back on how he handled being thrust into playing time at an early age.
Not gonna fault a guy for doing what he wants. Thanks for the effort, Andrew and good luck to you in your career.
