The 4-seed Syracuse Orange will step things up a notch on Saturday when they take on the 12-seed California Golden Bears in San Jose. Let's preview the third round match-up as we look for the chance to return to the Sweet Sixteen.

Date: Saturday, March 23rd

Time: 9:45(ish) P.M. EST

Location: HP Pavillion, San Jose, CA

TV: TBS

Announcers: Brian Anderson, Dan Bonner, Marty Snider

Records: Syracuse (27-9), Cal (21-11)

Seeds: Syracuse (4), Cal (12)

Cal's Last Game: The Bears outlasted UNLV in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, 64-61. Cal probably should have won the game by more but got themselves into trouble with poor foul shooting.

Series: 1-0, Syracuse

Last Meeting: The Orange and Goldy Bears met in 2009 in the 2K Sports Classic in Madison Square Garden. Behind The Scoop & Wes Show, they cruised to a 95-73 victory.

Cal This Year: The Bears went 21-11 (12-6) on the year. They don't have too many notable non-Pac-12 victories and their season includes losses to Wisconsin and Harvard. They did, however, rattle off seven-straight wins before losing to Stanford in season-ender. They lose the first game of the Pac-12 Tourney but got back to winning ways in the NCAAs on Thursday.

Cal Last Year: The Bears finished the season 24-10 and made it to the NCAA Tournament where they lost to South Florida in the First Four play-in game.

Cal Coach: Mike Montgomery (5th season) - Montgomery is a Bay Area college basketball institution. He spent 17 seasons with Stanford, leading them to a Final Four in 1998. After a brief NBA stint, he came to Cal and has taken them to the NCAAs in four of five seasons. He has a career record of 635-291. Incidentally, he coached Montana before headed to Stanford.

"Fear Me, I've Killed Hundreds Of Timelords": Allen Crabbe is the offensive leader of the team, scoring 18.7 PPG and grabbing 6 RPG to boot. Justin Cobbs adds 15.5 PPG and the duo are the only Bears averaging over 10 PPG.

Best Tourney Finish: The Bears won the 1959 NCAA National Championship behind coach Pete Newell.

Fun Fact: San Jose is 46 miles from Berkeley. That's closer than Syracuse is to Rochester.
