In a not-at-all surprising move, Syracuse Orange head coach has dismissed Markus Pierce-Brewster and Davon Walls from the team due to a "violation of team rules" a.k.a. getting caught robbing someone's apartment.

The defensive linemen were arrested on charges of burglarizing South Campus apartments on Feb. 23. Both were charged with second-degree burglary and petit larceny after burglarizing an apartment on the 400 block of Winding Ridge Road while the residents were sleeping, according to court documents. They were accused of stealing a flat-screen television, an Xbox gaming system, two iPods and Xbox games, worth a total of approximately $950.

As recently as yesterday Shafer had said he needed more time to decide what to do about the two players. Apparently he didn't need that much more.

Pierce-Brewster is the big on-field loss here. He played in 12 games last season, recording 30 tackles. He was expected to be a major contributor for the Orange this season, possibly starting on the defensive line.

As for Walls, he played in three games for the Orange last year but did not record any stats.

You can get the details on the arrest itself here (via Jeremy Ryan's crackerjack reporting). Now these two guys can focus on the task at hand, namely defending themselves in court.

So it goes...
