It's The Day After Yesterday, yesterday being National Signing Day, and the Syracuse Orange are still adding players to the 2013 class. This late arrival is a curious one indeed...quarterback Akeem Jones.

(Didn't I say yesterday I wanted a Jones in the recruiting class? Got one!)

Jones was deciding between Syracuse and Louisiana-Lafayette and it turns out that his recent visit to SU sealed the deal:

Seated at a table in the cafeteria of Carol City High School, Jones told The Post-Standard he made his decision two nights ago and called his family in Georgia to inform them of his choice. He said the official visit to Syracuse, which he raved about, was the determining factor.

"One of my friends called me and I told her I didn't want to leave," Jones said. "She thought I was kidding, but I was serious. I loved Syracuse, man."

He was recruited by, who else, George McDonald and Scott Shafer, who wanted Jones to come to SU as a QB even though they've already got Austin Wilson and Mitch Kimble in the mix.

The recruiting websites tell an interesting story. Jones doesn't have a rating from any of them and yet they all say that schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, Miami, Oregon and West Virginia were interested. According to Scout, only SU, USF, Marshall and Lafayette offered. (In the video below, Akeem says he received sixteen offers).

Apparently Jones had a rough childhood and ran into trouble with gangs early on. However, thanks to his mom, he turned his life around and now has an offer to play for SU.

Either there's a story here that I just don't know or we just got a steal of an athlete out of Miami. (Not to mention YEARS of Coming To America references...).
