Syracuse University’s Carrier Dome is the largest basketball venue in college sports, with a capacity of over 33,000. So when the university releases a statement that a record 35,012 tickets have been sold to Saturday's game vs. Georgetown and that the arena will be packed to capacity, college basketball fans should take notice. Fans are clearly excited about this marquee matchup for conference supremacy. According to TiqIQ, Syracuse Orange tickets for Saturday’s game on the secondary market check in at an average of $115 dollars, 59% above Syracuse’s home average of $72 dollars for the season. Despite a 12% decline in ticket prices for this game since last week, the cheapest seat in the house still runs stiffer than many top NBA matchups at a price of $45 dollars.
Syracuse comes into the game ranked eighth in the country, while Georgetown has climbed from outside the top 25 all the way to number eleven. The two teams are currently tied for first place in the Big East, and each has registered some impressive wins against stiff competition. Syracuse enters the weekend 4-0 against ranked opponents, including a statement victory against then number one Louisville. Georgetown has also knocked of Louisville, while notching wins against UCLA and Marquette as well.
However, this Georgetown tilt is still only the second most expensive game at the Carrier Dome this season. Currently, tickets to the March 2nd matchup against Louisville carry an average price tag of $121 dollars.
If Syracuse can defend the dome against Georgetown, expect excitement for the Louisville matchup to grow over the following week or so. The new Carrier Dome single game ticket sale record may end up to be rather short lived.
