Everybody's all Georgetown-game this and attendance-record that but, guys, we have to play the Providence Friars first. And last time I checked, the Syracuse Orange aren't in a position to be overlooking anyone. So let's get to re-know the Friars before our final Dome showdown.
Date: Wednesday, February 20th
Time: 7:00 p.m. EST
Location: Carrier Dome, Syracuse, NY
TV: ESPN2/ESPN3.com
Announcers: Mike Patrick, LaPhonso Ellis
Radio: Syracuse IMG Network/WAER 88.3/WTKW 99.5 FM/ESPN 97.7 FM/Sirius 112/XM 197
Records: Syracuse 21-4 (9-3), Providence 14-11 (6-7)
Rankings: Syracuse No. 8/8, Providence UNR
Friars' Last Game: Don't look now but the Friars have a hot hand. Their 71-54 win over Notre Dame was their fourth-straight Big East victory. Kadeem Batts led the way with 20 points.
Series: Syracuse leads 47-10.
Current Streak: 5, Syracuse
Last Game: The Orange played what might have been their final game in The Dunk for a long time earlier this season, besting the Friars 72-66. C. J. Fair scored 23 in the victory.
Boeheim's Record Vs: 45-9 (2nd most wins against any team behind Seton Hall, 46).
Providence Last Year: The Friars finished 15-17 (4-14) just out of the Big East basement, thanks to DePaul. Their season ended in the first round of the BET at the hands of Seton Hall.
Providence Coach: Ed Cooley (2nd season) - Cooley is the latest in a long line of saviors for Providence basketball. He was in charge of Fairfield for five years beforehand where he led them to two postseason runs. He's feisty, so, that's good.
"Fear Me, I've Killed Hundreds Of Timelords": Bryce Cotton, who leads the Friars in scoring with 20.4 PPG. But don't count out Kadeem Batts, whose coming off a 20-point performance against Notre Dame. LaDontae Henton can score and grab some boards, keep an eye on him.
Fun Fact: Syracuse once scored 101 points against Providence in 1991. Billy Owens led the team with 25 points.
Unexciting Reason To Watch: GEORGETOWN GAME THIS SATURDAY!
Exciting Reason To Watch: Classic trap game set-up. Providence's last chance to embarrass us. Syracuse's chance to get some serious momentum headed into the G'town game. 37-game home winning streak on the line. Plenty of reasons.
