Cornell News: Cornell Basketball Blog

Rivalry: 87-31, Syracuse (Here's something I wrote on the rivalry a couple years back)

Streak: 33, Syracuse

First Meeting: In the second-ever recorded game in the history of Syracuse basketball, the Orangemen outlasted the Big Red in a barnburner, 18-15.

Last Meeting: The two schools most recently met in 2010 and Syracuse prevailed, 78-58. C.J. Fair only scored two points, but, oh, what a two points...

Most Famous Meeting: Why, that would have to The Brawl in 1987, wouldn't it? "And here we go…"

School Connections: Cornell is SU's second most-played opponent after Colgate (118 times). We're old chums.

Head Coaches: SU: Jim Boeheim (38th Year, 920-314); Cornell: Bill Courtney (4th Year, 35-52)

Last Year: That 2010 Sweet Sixteen appearance is but a distant memory. Coming off a 13-18 season (5-9 Ivy) plagued by injuries and off-court issues, fourth-year head coach Bill Courtney will have to replace four starters this season (hence the betting line).

"Fear Me, I've Killed Hundreds Of Timelords": "Not only did we lose guys last year, but we lost our three most experienced guys going into this year,'' said Courney recently. I'm not even sure if they have enough guys to field a team. Injured Shonn Miller probably would have been up for Ivy League POY, but isn't expected back for a while. As it is, guard Nolan Cressler (9.3 PPG) is likely the biggest threat left standing.

Fun Fact: Cornell is taking on the ACC head-on. They play future ACC member Louisville next week and current member Notre Dame in December.
