Before anyone digs up my contract and demands that I honor it, can we all just admit that we can support the Syracuse Orange while also having a little fun at their expense? Good? Good.
So, this Saturday, the SU football team and men's basketball teams will both be in action. They will be playing vastly different opponents.
The football team will travel to Doak Campbell Stadium where the No. 2 Florida St. Seminoles await. They are on a collision course with the national title game, feature a Heisman Trophy candidate quarterback and have won thirteen-straight ACC games. They are favored by damn-near forty points.
The basketball team will host the Colgate Raiders within the comfy confines of the Carrier Dome. The Orange have beaten Colgate 47-straight times, usually do so while letting walk-ons play decent minutes and should do so again.
The outcomes of both games seem predictable and any deviation would be an upset on a magnitude I'm not sure our brains could handle. So that leaves us with one important question...
Who will score more points on Saturday…Florida State's football team or Colgate's basketball team?
We'll even give you a little incentive. The winning guess will receive their very own 2014 Vintage Syracuse Football Poster Calendar. To win, you'll need to do the following in the comments:
1. Tell us which team will score more points.
2. Tell us how many points both teams will score.
We'll use the scores you give us to determine tiebreakers.
Some helpful pointers to help you in your guessing...
Florida State
The Noles are averaging 52 points/game.
They have scored at least 41 points in every game this season.
They have been held under 48 only twice this season.
Syracuse has given up 48 or more points in three games this year.
On average, SU gives up 22.9 PPG.
Colgate
Colgate scored 78 points in their only game, a loss to Wake Forest.
Last season they averaged 63 points per game.
In two games, Syracuse opponents are averaging 67 PPG.
