Rivalry: 5-1, FSU
Streak: 5, FSU
First Meeting: Syracuse won the first-ever pairing between the two teams, 37-21, at Archbold Stadium in 1966. Hall-of-Famers Floyd Little and Larry Csonka combined for four of the Orange’s five touchdowns, with Little scoring three times and Csonka once. Little carried 20 times for a game- high 193 yards.
Last Meeting: Drew Weatherford threw three touchdowns and No. 6 Florida State sacked SU quarterbacks seven sacks in a 38-14 victory in 2005.
School Connections: There are a ton of player connections thanks to Syracuse having 15 Florida guys on the roster. One coaching connection…George McDonald was the receivers coach at Minnesota under FSU tight ends coach Tim Brewster, who was the Golden Gophers’ head coach at the time.
However, the best connection is between SU's Durell Eskridge and FSU's Devonta Freeman:
The relationship between SU’s Durell Eskridge and Florida State’s Devonta Freeman goes far beyond football. In addition to being teammates at Miami Central High School, Eskridge lived with Freeman for a period of time growing up after Eskridge’s mother lost her job.
Head Coaches: SU: Scott Shafer (1st Year, 5-4), FSU: Jimbo Fisher (4th Year, 40-10)
Last Year: FSU won its first ACC title since 2005 and advanced to their first BCS bowl since that year as well. They finished 12-2 and won the Orange Bowl over NIU, 31-10. It was the herald of what was yet to come...
"Fear Me, I've Killed Hundreds Of Timelords": When you've got a freshman quarterback who is probably the frontrunner for the Heisman Trophy, well, that's probably the guy to focus on. Jameis Winston has passed for 2,661 yards and 26 TDs. He’s second in the FBS in passing efficiency (192.2) and leads the ACC in total offense (313.1 ypg). So, he's doing very well...
Last Game: Florida State basically showed us what's coming with a 59-3 dismantling of Wake Forest.
Fun Fact: If Syracuse were to somehow win, FSU would be the highest-ranked team to lose to SU since No. 1 Nebraska in the 1984 "Dream Game." It would also be their first win against a team ranked in the top five since a 22-14 road win at No. 5 Virginia Tech in 2001.
Fun Fact 2: Syracuse hasn't scored more than 14 points in the last five outings against FSU.
Fun Fact 3: November barely started and FSU clinched the ACC Atlantic Division crown last week. They're all set, thanks.
