Syracuse vs. Holy Family: Yes, That Is An Actual Basketball Opponent

Syracuse opens up the exhibition slate hosting Holy Family. Yes, that's a real thing.

Holy Family Athletics

The 2013-2014 Syracuse Orange basketball season gets underway tonight! Kinda! The Orange will play a basketball game inside the Carrier Dome, which sounds real. They'll be doing so against something called Holy Family Tigers, which does not.

I take that back, it sounds like either a little league baseball team sponsored by the local Lutheran church or a team from the Malaysian Pro League.

Upon further review, they are in fact an actual college basketball team. Let's find out how actual they really are...

Day & Time: Friday, November 1, 7:00 p.m. EST

Arena: Carrier Dome (Syracuse, NY)

TV: Time Warner Cable SportsChannel (Ch. 323) or Orange All-Access PPV

Radio: Syracuse IMG Network

Full Name: Holy Family University

Founded: 1954

Location: Philadelphia, PA

Level: Division II

School Connections: You might find HFU's defense familiar. It's a 2-3 zone. Specifically, it's Jim Boeheim's 2-3 zone. Fun.

Head Coach: R.C. Kehoe (3rd season) - After spending five years as an assistant at Delaware, he took the HFU job. He's also the nephew of Phil Martelli, St. Joe's head coach.

Last Year: Last season, they finished with an 18-10 record for their first winning record in four years. They also won the Central Atlantic Athletic Conference's South Division, if that means something to you. They did lose to LeMoyne by 30, FYI.

"Fear Me, I've Killed Hundreds Of Timelords": Their best player is also the guy with the best name. 6-foot-4 senior Ervin Ezell averaged 16.9 PPG last year. You'll find him at the top of the key on defense as well.

Fun Fact: Holy Family forward Derrick Stewart attended Neumann-Goretti High School. You might remember that as where Scoop Jardine and Rick Jackson came from.

No. Of Times Someone Will Mention LeMoyne During Game: Whatever it is, take the over.
