One way or another a Jones brother was going to play in Super Bowl 47. With the Baltimore Ravens' 28-13 victory over the New England Patriots, it will be Arthur Jones reppin' the Syracuse Orange instead of Chandler Jones.
Jones had a key fumble recovery in the Ravens win as the team returns to the Super Bowl for the first time since winning it in 2001. Jones joined the team in 2010 as a fifth round pick out of SU.
Before the game, Jones said he had no qualms about beating Chandler to get to the big game.
"Absolutely. Why not me be the first to have a Super Bowl ring?" Arthur asked. "I’m already three years in. You know, my clock is ticking. … Jon has a championship belt, so Chandler can get one down the road once I’m done playing, once I retire."
Heck, if the Ravens win the Super Bowl, "I’m retiring," Jones said, before adding with a wink: "Maybe I’ll be a reporter."
Cue the Syracuse.com commenter who says "my sources tell me Art Jones considering retirement."
Jones played in 16 games for the Ravens this season, starting six, garnering 47 total tackles and 4.5 sacks.
Former Syracuse DL Jameel McClain is also on the Ravens but he will miss the game due to a spinal contusion that knocked him out of the season.
