Syracuse Women's Basketball Ranked No. 23 In Coaches Poll

The Syracuse men's basketball team isn't the only ranked basketball team in town.

USA TODAY Sports

All this time we've been so preoccupied with the terrible things beseeching our Syracuse Orange football and men's basketball programs that we've taken our eye off of what's going on with the women's basketball team. Off to a 14-1 (2-0) start, the Orange entered the USA Today Coaches Poll this week for the first time this season, debuting at No. 23.

Tied for its best start after 15 games in program history with 2009-10 when it started 15-1, the Orange's No. 23 ranking in the coaches poll is its first since being No. 25 on Jan. 31, 2011 and its highest since ranking No. 23 on Dec. 29, 2009.

That also happens to be one spot lower than Syracuse's all-time best ranking of No. 22, which they garnered in 2008 and 2009.

SU is currently on a seven-game winning streak and if they can keep it going and beat DePaul tonight in the Dome, they'll be primed for the upset bid when they travel to Hartford to take on the No. 1 Connecticut Huskies on Saturday.

It's probably a good time to get on the bandwagon and get to know Kayla Alexander, Brianna Butler, Brittney Sykes, Rachel Coffey, Carmen Tyson-Thomas and the rest of Quentin Hillsman's squad. It'll come in handy later in the season.
