Remember when the Villanova Wildcats used to come to the Carrier Dome and it would bring out record-breaking attendance to see two nationally-ranked teams do battle? Yeah...that was fun. Now, the Wildcats come to the Dome on Saturday to play the Syracuse Orange and all anyone can think about is, "But will our new football coach be there?"
Date: Saturday, January 12th
Time: 12:00 p.m. EST
Location: Carrier Dome, Syracuse, NY
TV: Time Warner Cable Sports/SNY/Big East Network/ESPN3/6 ABC (Philly)
Announcers: Anish Shroff & Bob Wenzel
Radio: Syracuse IMG Network/WAER 88.3/WTKW 99.5 FM/ESPN 97.7 FM/Sirius 112/XM 197
Records: Syracuse 15-1 (3-0), Villanova 11-4 (2-0)
Rankings: Syracuse No. 7/7, Villanova UNR
Wildcats' Last Game: The Cats improved to 2-0 in the Big East with a 61-53 win over the USF Bulls:
Despite the week-long layoff, the Villanova Wildcats (11-4, 2-0) came out with a composed and well executed gameplan to take care of business down south, knocking off the South Florida Bulls (9-5,0-2) 61-53 at the Sun Dome. While many expected the spotlight to be on Ryan Arcidiacono and Anthony Collins, it was the 'Nova frontcourt that shone brightest.
Series: Syracuse leads 37-31.
Current Streak: 2, Syracuse
Last Game: Scoop Jardine and Dion Waiters, who were from Philadelphia, put a hurting on the Cats in front of their hometown crowd in a 79-66 SU win.
Villanova Last Year: Villanova had a bit of a rough go in the Big East last year, finishing 13-19 overall and 5-13, a sharp drop-off from their 21-win season the year before. Nova missed the NCAA Tournament for the first time in eight years.
Villanova Coach: Jay Wright (12th season) - He's no Boeheim but Wright has become an institution at Nova. Of course, institution or not, he's gonna have to see some improvement on last year's finish.
"Fear Me, I've Killed Hundreds Of Timelords": JayVaughn Pinkston and Ryan Arcidiacono are the team's leading scorers with 13.3 and 12.5 PPG, respectively. If anyone's going to blow up and hit 27 three's against us, it's Arcidiacono.
Fun Fact: Jim Boeheim's 100th win was over Villanova, 97-83 on March 1, 1980.
Unexciting Reason To Watch: A nooner. We do terrible in nooners. Wait, that might just be football...
Exciting Reason To Watch: There's a really good chance Scott Shafer will be there at halftime and chances are he'll curse and belittle someone. It will be awesome.
