Name: Seamus Shanley (I feel like there should be an O' in there somewhere)
Position: O'Line (See what I did there?!)
Year: Freshman
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 275
Hometown: Syracuse, NY
High School: West Genesee
2011 Stats: N/A
2012 Projections: As a walk-on, a walk-on freshmen no less, Syracuse coaches and fans would hope that Shanley would never see the field. But the truth is, that could very well happen as it seems just about everyone on the roster may see time in 2012. Shanley missed a significant amount of his senior season at West Genesee with a knee injury, so that could have an impact could limit him this season.
As for now, Shanley is currently listed behind junior Macky MacPherson and frosh Jason Emerich at the center position. I would expect Shanley to stick close to the bench, but given all the injuries and other issues facing the O-Line, you never know. Should Shanley show well in camp this month, it's not completely out of the question he may be relied on in some form this season, even if it's in a special teams capacity.
How'd He Get Here?: Shanley, according to the Syracuse Post Standard, was an honorable mention selection in Class AA-2 in 2011. Being from Syracuse, I'm assuming Shanley didn't have many choices, but SU is one of the few BCS programs were nobody walk-on can become a somebody key player, quickly.
What'd Scout/Rivals Say?: We'll go ahead and assume both didn't have much to say about Shanley, but that could be because they're spending way too much time bitching about NBC's coverage of the Olympics. Seriously, those guys need to relax, they're flipping out about tape delays of drunken sports you play at BBQs.
Links of Wonder: Seamus was apart of the West Genny 2011 Class AA Section III football championship team. While the team beat CBA at the Dome for the title, Seamus missed the game with the knee injury.
What Doug Marrone Thinks: Coach Marrone expects Shanley to be the best at everything, ever.
Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Resident TNIAAM Everything Report Dan tells me Seamus is the son of Syracuse University Department of Public Safety corporal Joe Shanley. The friendliest dang ole public safety man you'll ever darn meet, I tell you what.
Let Us Get a Good Look Atchya: Not this time, buddy!
