When the Syracuse Orange and USC Trojans battle it out at MetLife Stadium on September 8th, it will be a showdown of Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award candidates.
Syracuse's Ryan Nassib earned the distinction yesterday when he was included on a list of 29 quarterbacks who will battle it out to be awarded to the NCAA's top quarterback for on-field performance and character.
Quarterback had long been a trouble spot for Syracuse, but Nassib has bucked that trend. In 2011, Nassib set school records for completions (259) and passing yards (2,685).
The list includes USC's Matt Barkley, Clemson's Tahj Boyd, Michigan's Denard Robinson, Oklahoma's Landry Jones and South Florida's B.J. Daniels. Nice to see a Syracuse quarterback get mentioned amongst all that great talent...and B.J. Daniels, too.
Meanwhile, Charley Loeb was named a Joe Nameth Golden Locks Award candidate, awarded to the NCAA's top quarterback for dashing good looks and charisma.
