"Get to Know" never really ends...
Name: John Raymon
Position: Defensive End
Year: Redshirt Freshman
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 313
Hometown: Rockboro, PA
High School: Council Rock North
2011 Stats: Raymon didn't see the field at Iowa last year.
2012 Projections: Obviously, a lot depends on whether or not Raymon gets a waiver from the NCAA. If he is allowed to play, it still may be up in the air whether or not he sees the field this year. Considering he was between 240-250 lbs when he first got to Iowa, the fact that he's currently weighing in at 313 could be a bit disconcerting. Unless that gain is all solid (doubtful) and he's moving inside to defensive tackle (possible), Raymon may be on the Adonis-Ameen Moore plan to get trimmed down for next season.
How'd He Get Here?: Raymon never really felt comfortable at Iowa, and withdrew from classes in October, and began to look for schools closer to the Philadelphia area, where he's from. He also specifically looked at Big East/ACC schools. Luckily for Syracuse, we're sort of both!
What'd Scout/Rivals Say?: Three stars from both sites. He had offers from Illinois, Maryland, NC State, Purdue, Temple, and West Virginia in addition to Iowa.
Money Quote: Orange Fizz reached out to Raymon back in July...
"Things just didn’t work out at Iowa. They told me they hoped things would work out at another school. Mainly, I just need to be closer to home."
Links of Wonder: There's a lot of good stuff about Raymon, the high school prospect, in this article in The Gazette.
What Does Marrone Daoust Think?: He just found a bunch of defensive linemen under the tree...
"It’s a good Christmas Day for me right here, having all these gifts," Daoust said. "I have to figure out how to use them."
Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Raymon hasn't played too much football in recent years. Before sitting out last season, he missed most of his senior year with an injury, although he performed well in the three games he was able to play in, recording 28 total tackles. Raymon is a bit of a freak athlete though, with a nearly seven foot wingspan.
