With uncertainly on the defensive line, coupled with the loss of Ryan Sloan, the arrival of John Raymon and Davon Walls might end up being a critical addition to the Syracuse Orange defensive line. Of course, that assumes Raymon is eligible to play in 2012.
According to John (via Rahme), that possibility is looking good:
"Everything sounds good. I think it’s going to be passed within a week or two, so I feel great about it."
"It" is a waiver to the NCAA seeking eligibility to play this season rather than sit out the mandatory one year required when a player transfers from one Division I FBS school to another. Raymon was at Iowa last season. The basis for the waiver application is unclear, but Raymon and an SU source familiar with the situation believe it will be granted.
Raymon stepped away from the Iowa program early on in the 2011 season. Coupled with whatever his reasons are, I guess that might be enough. Whatever the reasons, we're all for it. Especially with Raymon rearing to go:
"It doesn’t really matter where I play," Raymon said. "I’ll tear it up wherever I’m at. Put me at defensive end, put me at tackle. Obviously it’s a transition to defensive tackle, but with Coach (Tim) Daoust and the help of the veterans I can do it."
