This is the end...my Orange friends...
Name: George Morris III
Position: Running back
Year: Freshman
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 192
Hometown: Lawrenceville, GA
High School: Central Gwinnett
2011 Stats: As a senior, Morris carried the rock 145 times for 1,045 yards and 17 touchdowns, and caught 36 passes for 395 yards.
2012 Projections: While we're pretty flush at running back this year, at least in terms of numbers, it has always been one of the positions where freshmen can excel. If Morris can prove himself in practice and carve out a niche in the offense right away, he may see some playing time, although it won't be an easy task with Jerome Smith, Prince-Tyson Gulley and possibly Adonis Ameen Moore all ahead of him.
How'd He Get Here?: Morris chose SU over offers from Illinois, Purdue, Utah, Vanderbilt and a slew of mid majors.
What'd Scout/Rivals Say?: Three stars from everyone.
Money Quote: While a player from Georgia might have had reservations about coming up to Syracuse, seeing other players like Cam Lynch succeed before him helped Morris make his decision.
"Having a player from my region up there, and seeing him succeed up there, that helped out a lot."
Links of Wonder: Orange Fizz spoke with Morris on signing day about his play style and choosing Syracuse.
What Does Marrone Think?: Morris was one of Doug's top running back targets, and is from a football rich state, so I think it's fair to assume that Doug is a fan.
Interesting Nugget O'Interest: After the summer session began, it was quickly discovered that two incoming freshmen—defensive end Myles Hilliard and Morris—didn't appear in the student directory. It was soon discovered that Hilliard would be spending a semester at Milford Academy, but Syracuse.com also reported that Morris was not on campus. However, Nation of Orange has since discovered that Morris is in fact at SU, and is participating in drills. Morris' status is a bit of a mystery at this point, but hopefully he clears up whatever he needs to in order to enroll and get set for the fall.
