Syracuse Football: Get To Know Your Orange Man - #57 Omari Palmer

Cookouts? Fireworks? Hot dog eating contests? Who needs those things this Independence Day? Let's just get to know an incoming freshman...

Name: Omari Palmer

Position: #57

Year: Freshman

Height: 6'3"

Weight: 300

Hometown: Coram, NY

High School: Longwood

2011 Stats: Just a lot of defensive lineman destruction, mostly.

2012 Projections: He probably won't see time on the O-Line as a true freshman, but after watching him live at the Empire Challenge, I have to think he's one of the true freshmen who is closest to being game ready. We might use Omari on special teams in a pinch if we can't afford to redshirt him, and I think he'll be playing by 2013.

How'd He Get Here?: Syracuse was the first to offer, and Omari doesn't mess around. He committed almost immediately.

What'd Scout/Rivals Say?: Two stars from both.

Money Quote:

"If we’re going to score, we have to play, we have to block," he said. "They (other positions) might get all of the glory, but in the locker room, within the team and the coaching staff, everyone knows that we are what puts points on the board – what makes the offense click."

Links of Wonder: Nolan from the P-S caught up with Omari as he practiced for the Upstate-Downstate game.

What Does Marrone Think?:

"I watched him early on and, you know, I guess when you use the term 'road grader' and you watch other teams that were defending him...and they were saying 'on defense, we were just trying to cut him coming out.' He has a background in wrestling, something that I always look forward to, or look into whenever we're recruiting an offensive lineman. We've been lucky. I've been fortunate. We've got a lot of good, young offensive lineman. We picked Omari to come in and he has the ability to help us...quickly, because of his type of style of play."

Interesting Nugget O'Interest: Omari grew up as a Syracuse fan, so making his college decision was a bit easier than it was for many of our other recruits. He's also an avid TNIAAM reader, so...hi Omari!
